In the summer of 2024, I worked as a Manufacturing Engineering Intern at GE Aerospace’s Rotating Parts Facility in Asheville, North Carolina. This facility specializes in producing precision rotating components for jet engines, giving me my first in-depth exposure to large-scale aerospace manufacturing operations while also allowing me to explore the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains during my time off.

One highlight of the summer was a whitewater rafting trip with my intern team, which helped us bond outside of the office and gave me a deeper appreciation for the community within GE Aerospace.
My primary role at GE Aerospace involved managing and updating detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring every tool and process used for each part was accurately documented. While this was meticulous work, it taught me the importance of precision and traceability in aerospace manufacturing—a critical factor in safety and quality assurance.

Beyond documentation, I had the opportunity to shadow machinists on the shop floor, learning about advanced machining processes and production workflows. I also collaborated with the Lean Manufacturing team on small-scale process improvement projects, gaining a foundation in Lean principles and an appreciation for continuous improvement methodologies.
Outside of work, I spent weekends exploring North Carolina’s natural beauty, including a hike up Chimney Rock.
Overall, this internship gave me hands-on exposure to the realities of aerospace production, strengthened my attention to detail, and provided valuable networking opportunities within GE Aerospace’s engineering teams.
